Positive Influences For Kids Acting Shakespeare Productions will help them succeed in Adulthood!
Last week I attended a stage production of Shakespeare called the Twelfth Night. Two of my cousins and a niece took part. They played their roles very well to all of us and their parents very proud of their achievements.
I’ve never had the opportunity to see many Shakespeare plays in my life but I’ve been involved in several productions at the college. I know that the huge number of hours and effort they demand of the cast, crew support, the director and everyone involved.
What makes this night more surprising was that the entire production was put together in a space of just three weeks. The first two weeks were used to learn their lines and the last week was spent rehearsing in the Director’s guidance cheap cigarettes. Sure, many people and parents worked hard to make it happen, but for the fact that it was done in three weeks is an achievement in itself.
None of the younger artists especially, forgot their lines. I’m no Shakespeare expert by a piece of the imagination, but the acting, the gestures, the expressions and accents were all professionally.
The props, costumes and the lighting of the stage were all done to the highest standard. Even the younger members of the cast who were as young as 4 years old, performed their elegant elements.
It is an understatement to say that I am very proud of my niece and nephews. Fact is, I was proud of all children enrolled in that night. The professionalism they displayed in the show and two nights was impeccable.
It also got me thinking about the nature of the experiences that children are introduced to. All credit to their parents for them this experience. To give our children new experiences, all parents should try and do something. The effect on their self esteem and confidence should not be underestimated. After playing, I did it my goal to go and congratulate them all and not just the main performers.
We adults need to seriously consider the impact of our words and comments can have on people especially the youth.
Although not ungrateful, my parents do the best they could with my education, but there are some cases that still makes me cringe every time I think about them.
Some of these negative incidents were caused by people I watched. Over the years I’ve learned to forget them or they push me, but they still pop up at the time. I can only wonder how many negative incidents that affected my character and outlook on life. I prefer not to think about if it can be extremely painful. Instead, I shall God to heal me, for without Him, I can not honestly know what I would like today.
Negative comments can easily break a person, especially those who are children. The effect is multiplied when they look at us as their mentors, parents or role models. Think about that next time you say something without thinking of children under your care.
Positive comments and encouragement on the other hand, they build on and improve their self confidence, self-esteem and self belief. I’m no psychologist, but I know about positive reinforcement.
